JEWELLER FOUND DEAD.
INQUEST CONCLUDED. An inquest was concluded yesterday, before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., into j the death of Walter John Watson, a jeweller, of Christchurch, who was found dead near the Sign of the Takahe, Cashmere Hills, on the afternoon of November 29th. Watson was. aged 48, and lived at 22 Circuit street, | St. Albans. Sergt. T. Wolfendale con- ' ducted the inquest proceedings. Ralph Fowler, a military pensioner, of Beckcnham, stated that on the afternoon of November 29th, at about 3.30 o'clock he found the body of Watson on the hills near the Sign of the Takahe. £ shot-gun was between his legs, with the muzzle pointing to his head.
Constable J. M. O'Halloran gave evidence of finding the body. Mr Mo3ley stated that the evidence heard at the opening of the inquest and that heard yesterday, enabled him to arrive at a verdict that the death of Watson was due to a gun-shot wound in the head, self-inflicted, while in a state of deep mental depression.
