BROADSIDING.
VISITING RIDERS TO APPEAR. Broadsiding has two big advantages. in that it is a genuine sport and at the same time a splendid entertainment. Tho competitive spirit between riders is strongly developed, and that is probably what accounts for its continued popularity. Broadsiding, since its season runs through the summer period, lias an extra special appeal in that it is an open-air sport. On Saturday last the fourth season ot broadsidinj* in Christehurch opened at Monica Park Speedway. The evening's racing was one of the best that has bcon seen here, notwithstanding the fact that it was the first try-out of the local men. Next Saturday machines are bound to be faster, and, given good weather, the track will be improved. Wallv Kihnister and Charlie Black-loch demonstrated on Saturday last that they hare nothing to learn in tho art of broadsiding. Kilmister's machines were not <loin? their best on Saturday night, and good »s the racing was 011 Saturday, followers of tHe game can expect better yet. The loeal brigade showed a surprising amount of ability. and it is an interesting fact that the riders this season are more tVenly matched thati before. Added interest will be lent to ! Saturday's programme by the reappearance of Peter Phillips (Wellington) and Allan Crighton and Stan Ravenswood. of Dunedin. More detailed information of the programme for next Saturday will be contained in tomorrow's newspapers.
