MONTHLY BEPORT. The librarian of the"" Canterbury Public Library (Mr E. J. Boll) reports th,at November was another very successful month in all departments of the library. Prom the circulating library 15,148 books were issued for home reading, an increase of 181 compared with November last year. New subscribers to the number of 96 enrolled, atid nearly 200" volumes were placed into . stock, several being important works of nonfiction. The reference library also* experienced a busy period, 9427 - volumes being consulted, an increase of 402 over the fig**-c8 for November, 1931. Nineteen useful books were added to th<; stock. The children's section - shows a good increase in the work, accomplished, the membership having reached a f>tai of 2246. Nearly 4000 books were taksa out for home reading, an increase of 347 compared with the same jperiod of 1931. Thirty-six new books were received. The Beading Club terminated its activities recently after a most successful season. Twenty-five • children wero enrolled during the season, and the instruction.given should, be beneficial to aIL It has been decided to open the reading, reference, and' circulating departments from 2 to 5 p.m. o» Tuesday, December 27th, and' also o« Tuesday, January '3rd. On,"Christmas Day and Boxing Day all departments will be closed, and on New Year's Day the reading room only will open from 1 to 9 pjn., all departments being .closed «a Monday, January 2nd.
