AUSTRALIAN POULTRY. MOVE AGAINST IMPORTATION | INTO CANADA. i OTTAW4, December 12. -The proposal to prohibit the importation into Canada of poultry from Australia, as made by the Poultry Committee of the British Columbia Pcultrv Conference to Mr William Atkinson, British Columbia Minister for Agriculture, may be in the nature of a retaliatory measure, it was stated by tho Dominion Department of Agriculture to-day. Tho British Columbia Conference is seeking an embargo against Australian poultry because of the presence of Newcastle disease in some parts of that country. The Department of Agriculture here states that Australia has put into effect an order prohibiting the entry of poultry into the Commonwealth from Noith America, because of infectious bronchitis. No intimation was given as to what action was likely if the British Columbia resolution were' forwarded to the Dominion Government. VICTORIAN TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS. AUSTRALIAN TEAM FOR NEXT TEST MATCH. (Received December ISth, 8.45 p.m.) MELBOURNE, December 13. In the Victorian tennis championships C. R. Dunlop and Miss J. Hartigan (New South Wales) won the mixed doubles from Wiliner Allison and Mrs van Ryn (U.S.A.) on tho default of Allison. Tho American captain protested and wanted the match to be played to-day, but tho referee disallowed the protest. Australia's team for the second Test match against the American players is as follows:—J. B. Crawford (captain), IT. O. Hopman, C. E. Sproule, V. B. McGrath, and A. K. Quist (emergency).
