At the meeting of the City Council on. Monday evening a clause in the Town Planning Committee's report rethe issue of a permit for a sawmill on a section on North road, Papanui, was held over, in order that Councillors could Visit the site. The matter came up for decision at last night's special meeting of the Council | and was djscussed at some length. It | was reported that the negotiations for the purchase of the- property by the | Waltham Timber Company had not boon proceeded with, though it was proposed to do so shortly. Voting on Cr. G. T. I Thurston's motion: "That the applicaj tion be declined," resulted in a tie, and the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) gavo his casting vote in the same direction as his deliberative one, in favour of the motion. Consequently the permit will be withdrawn.
