THE LAND MARKET.
A.N INACTIVE .YEAR. X/and scliing- has not been an oasy matter during the twelve months (states Pyne, Guild, Guinness 'a Annual Ecview). and although enquiries bavo been fairly numerous, the gap between buyers and sellers still remains fairly wide. There is no doubt that there is money available, for land on the basis of present prices for Btock and wool, but, except in tho case of a mortgagee's sale, there is practically nothing offering which complies with the purchaser's idea of value. Should the efforts now being made by the statesmen of the world result in an improvement in trading conditions, it would not bo long before a feeling of renewed confidence was established and everybody would feel the benefit. Land buyers would react as soon as anybody. We haro hopes that it will not be long before a steady demand sets in for farm lands, more particularly those which are adapted for mixed farming. Purely sheep country is looked at askance after tho disastrous experiences of the last three years. Leaseholds are always popular, but until the leases are put on a basis which will give the tenant some hope of making a living, nobody will want to have anything to do with them. F.ven tho dairy cow has lost her attraction for the moment, prices for milk and butter being what they are. Once the ball starts Tolling in the right direction (and we think there are already signs of its doing so) the time will not be far distance when we shall have forgotten the nightmare of the last few years and settled down to a life approaching normality.
