Kunauga, Taylorillv, Dobsou, Blackball, Kaihinu, Humphreys, aud Iho Hokitika Iligb Schools left on an excursion to Okristcbiireh for the purpose of visiting the Wilt ter fallow, in charge of teachers from their schools. Sargisson, manager of the Bank of New South Wales, who has been transferred fo the bank's Feilding branch, and Mrs Sargisson, wero entertained by tlio residents of Westport at a social gathering on Weduesday evening. Tho Mayor (Mr .T. H. Harkness) presided, and during the evening presented Mr and Mrs Sargissou with an electric lamp and a set of cut-glass wine glasses. Mr nnd Mrs B,'irgisnon leave to-mor-row for the Xorth Island. Hockey. A soven a side tournament for tho Crankshaw Shield was held by the women's hockey clubs at liokitika on Wednesday. The weather was beautiful, but the recent, rain had left tho ground soft and slippery. Nine teams took part in tho tournament, and some good games were witnessed. In tho iirst round Mawhera (Greyniouth) wero eliminated, being beaten by Rovers A by 3 to nil. The final was won bv liokitika, who beat Rover# A by 2 to nil. Last year's holders of the Crankshaw Shield wero Itokitika.

Garden Allotments. ,\ memorandum was read from (lie secretary of the Garden Allotments Committee enquiring whether the Board had any land which it would be prepared to place at the disposal of the committee for n period of two years for the purpose of enabling unemployed men to grow vegetables for their own use. It was resolved to otter the Paparoa street and Milne street sites to the committee for this purpose for a period of two years provided these areas were not required by the Board for any other purpose, and subject to the supervision of the Manual and Technical Committee and of the supervisor. A further proviso was that additional expenditure on the score pf rates should not accrue t,o the Board. The following representatives of (he board on the management of Technical Schools were reappointed. —Mr S. R. Evison (Christchurch Technical' College) and Mr <T. W. Preen (Timaru Technical School).
