CABARET COMIQUE.

IN AID OF PLUNKET SOCIETY. The splendid reputation for good organisation, which the committee of the Cabaret Comique has deservedly built up, was responsible for the great demand for tickets for the ~iost entertaining dance held last night at the Winter Garden. For the past few days, tickets have been at a premium iu the City, for the committee, anxious that the dance should be thoroughly enjoyable as well as financially successful, decided to limit the number of guests to five hundred. They were all there and all had a really enjoyable evening. ; Jhe ballroom was decorated to repre-sent-a French quay-side and marketplalp,'' Gaily striped awning and effectiyery; decorated booths, each bearing on t€s{«sign-board the half-disguised name gn&address of some prominent Plunket worker in Christchurch, gave the required Continental touch and the crowd certainly supplied the "comique" element. Amongst schoolgirls, pierrots, pierrettes, nurses with and without Eed Crosses, Spanish dancers, gipsies, peasants, and cowboys moved a chic little midinette, a widow not as dolorous as her "weeds" would imply, a regal Katharine of Aragon, and Chinese ladies of high degree. Even the members or" the BaileyMarston Orchestra, dressed as sailors, and seated in a picturesque galleon, added their quota to the colourful scene.

The members of the committee who deserved the success they achieved were Mrs Frank Graham, Mrs J. O. Collins, Miss Margaret Anderson, Miss Ruth Haggitt, Messrs Frank Graham, Heathcote Helmore, Eons Lascelles, JR.. H. Livingstone, O. A. Y. Johnston, and Frank Nicholls, and helping them was a bevy of very competent assistants. Amongst those present were: i Mesaames Frank Graham, J. G. Collin3. J. C Newton, 11. 11. Livingstone, C. M.
