Transport and the Depression A Question of Cause and Effect " LTHOUGH there may be differences of opinion as to the causes of the depression, there should be general agreement about one of the present troubles—the over-supply of transport facilities—an excess which costs the country some millions sterling a year. While the Railways, well-equipped and efficiently organised for satisfactory economical transport, have the latent capacity for a large Increase of service, the Dominion Is heavily burdened with competitive transport. It Is clear that the Dominion's full recovery from the present set-back necessitates elimination of waste in transport. The Railways can help New Zealand to regain prosperity.
