GREYMOUTH, August 12.
Mr and tkf rs George Harker, who have been visiting Christchurch, returned yesterday. Mrs P. I. McCarthy (Invercargill) is visiting her daughter, Mrs D. James, Greymouth. Miss B. Stent, who has been spending a holiday in Auckland, returned yesterday. Mr and Mrs C. Thorn (Kumara) left yesterday on a holiday to Christchurch and Eangiora. Mrs F. M. .Dennehy left yesterday on a visit to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Joseph Bowse left yesterday from Runanga on a holiday to Christchurch.
Mr W. Findlay, who has been visiting relatives in Grcymouth, returned yesterday to AVellington. Mr C. E. Bridge, of the Wellington office of the A.M.P. Society, arrived yesterday, and will relieve Mr Coltman at Greymouth during his absence on holiday leave. Wedding. The wedding was celebrated at Westport on Wednesday of Mary, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Currie, and Lance, son of Mr and Mrs A. Mockett, of Westport. The ceremony took place at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, the Rev. S. Webber officiating. The bride wore a frock of white georgette with laco top and lace godets. Her tulle veil was held in place by a wreath of orange blossom. Miss E. Mockett, sister of the bridegroom, was bridesmaid, and wore a frock of green georgette and lace, with a lace coatee, white hat, and shoes and stockings to match. Mr C. Robertson was best man. Later, Mr and Mrs Mockett left for Nelson, Wellington, and Christchurch on their honeymoon, the bride wearing a brown face cloth coat and felt hat. Magistrate's Court. A sitting of the Magistrate's Court was held in Westport on Wednesday, Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., presiding. Henry William Smith proceeded against Michael Joyce, of Mangatina, for slander. The Magistrate gave judg-* mont for plaintiff for £ls. Hockey. In the final for the Milligan Eoso Bowl, in the West Coast Hockey Association, Rover A met Hokitika, at Hokitike, on Wednesday, and drew, each side scoring 1 goal. The game resulting in a draw, gave the Bowl to Mawhera (Greymouth). At Kokatahi, the home team beat Rover B bv 3 goals to .1. Misses G. Dimmick. L. Monk, and R. Little scored for Kokatahi and Miss E. Boyd for Rover B. The final points in the competition for the Milligan Rose Bowl were:— Mawhera 14 (won 7 games, lost 1), Hokitika 13 (won 6 games, lost 1, drew 1), Rover A 9, Kokatahi 4, Rover B 0. Lake Kanieri. Lake Kanieri is reported to be showing the effects of *tho long dry spell, and is lower than it has been for a considerable time. The intake of the Hokitika borough supply is now near the top of the water level, and any further J drop will have some effect on the town water supply. The Kanieri Electric, Ltd., authorities are also watching the fall of the lake, as their supply ia also seriously affected. Country residents all over the district arc suffering from water shortage for watering their stock. Water-holes and small creeks are all dry.
