Short but Creditable Record. i:ov;t! Visitor, winner of the Beaufort Steeplechase, ami a likely candidate in to-day's cross-country event, is a halfhruther to Prince Yal, a good performer last season. The dam of the rair, Sports Queen, is from I'ranium, who, in addition to reaching high class herself, produced Wedding March, Aberfcldy, t'hronjadvnp, and Lord Star. . Up to ■ late. TROTTING NOTES. Reminder. ' . .; Nominations for the -Now Lnghton Trotting Club's Meeting, to be held on ' September 3rd, dose on Thursday, at noonA True Champion. rt is not often that Harold Logan is allowed to start at tho remunerative price that he did in the National Handicap yesterday, the general opinion being that he could hardly be at Tjis best to Bee out a solidly run two miles on such a short preparation, but nc proved the contention all wrong, and when ho was within striking distance in sixth place with half a mile to go, he showed that he was a real class horse by Mb great run from there to the post. Even when in difficulties in battling out the finish he quickly righted himself and he triumphed in the manner of the true racehorse he last success was in tho Now Zealand Free for All, decided last November. . Stud Bookings. Mr J. E. Corrigau, of Ilaweru, has booked Lady Pointer and a Harold Dillon mare, the dam of Lord Leslie, to Mr P. Holmes's imported stallion Frank "Worthy. Lomar has boon retired from the race-track and will visit Urattan Loyal. Successful Trainers. -Winning training honours were distributed among thirteen trainers at the meeting just concluded; J. Bryce (3) headed tho list, while those with two successes each were D. Withers, J. I>. Smith, D. Teahop, J. Young, W. J. Tomkinson, C. 8. Donald, B. J. Humphreys, J. 8. Shaw, and J. A. Smaill. Those with a single victory were A, Cox, K. B, Berry, and W. J. Morland. .7. Bryce, jun., headed tho horsemen's list with three wins. Then came J. McLennan (2), D. Withers (2j, L. Frost (2), D. Teahea (2), B. Young (2), J. S. Shaw (2), A. Holmes (2), W. J. Tomkinson (2), and B. B. Berry, M. Holmea, C. S. Donald, C. King, and V. Alborn one each.

Winning Owners. Mr W. G. Deyell through the agency of bis one representative, Red Shadow, topped the winning owners' list with a total of £825. Others well up wero Mr G. J. Barton £SGO, and Miss E. Hinds £540. A Useful Purchase. Tactless has put himself on tho right side of the ledger for his new owner, Miaa E. Hinds, who now has no reason to regret having purchased the gelding at Mr H. W. Aker's dispersal sale loss than three months ago. Tactless is a seven-year-old gelding, who appears only now to be coming to his best, and he should do further good service for his new owner. B. J. Humphreys lias not had the pacer long, but he has effected a good deal of improvement in him.

Form Worked Out Well. Form proved an excellent guide at the Addiugtou meeting just concluded, as no fewer than four horses scored double victories, namely, Arctotia, Red Shadow, Eureka Boy, and Gunfire. Red Shadow was started four times for two firsts, ono second, and a fourth, but Eureka Boy was produced only twice, and achieved success each time. Tactless ran second, then won, his starts numbering two. Somcrby had one major and two minor placings in his three starts. Herod ran third and first in the two races he contested. Gold Country ran second, first, and fourth in his three outings. Todd Lonzia won on the first day, was third on the second dav, and second on the concluding day, while First Wrack, who contested the same races, was in the money ou each occasion, but she did not secure a win.

Unlucky. Somcrby. who showed such consistent form 'ut the August meeting, would have, with just a little more lucK, won the Heathcoto Handicap yesterday instead of finishing such a close third, lie was securely boxed in practically the length of the straight, but for which ho probably would have returned a. sensational dividend. Being regarded more as a sprinter, Brcntlight and Steel All were the only horses carrying fewer tickets, the distance of the race being two miles. A Fine Trotter. Biddy Parrish began better in the Adding ton Handicap than she usually does, but even so she was soon back among those near the rear of tho handicap. Once she was firmly settled in her stride she had tho field buried for speed, and it was her sprint along the back tho last time which gave her tho victory. This mare, who began racing as a iive-year-old—-she. is now sevenhas rapidly reached the best class, and is earning" wide popularity among followers of tho trotting sport by her exhibition of faultless aetiou and determination. It was only at tho spring meeting of tho Metropolitan Trotting Club seven years ago that Eoso Peters, dam of Biddy Parrish, won her last race, a saddle- event for unhoppled trotters. < ~~ PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB.

CAPTAIN'S GIFT 11-0. Had the National Hurdle Kacp won at two miles-. Will keep to-day's field again busy, but extra -weight IMb may stop him. PADDON 11-0. liaised Mb.
