HISTORIC PLACES.

PRESERVATION IN ENGLAND.

WORK OF NATIONAL TRUST,

V3BITISH OFFICIAL WIBELESS.) (Received August 11th, 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, August 10. The National Trust for preserving the beautiful and historic places in the English countryside states in its report for 1932 that the Trust has now opened nearly 220 sites. Last year the Trust proceeded with the reafforestation of Box Hill, Surrey, where 1300 young trees have been planted. On behalf of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings the Trust has taken over Montacuto House, which is a perfect example of Elizabethan architecture, and formerly the home of Lord Curzon, and has similarly taken the Assembly Rooms at Bath for the nation. The summit of Dunkery Beacon, Exmoor, was acquired, and an old Yorkshire bridge at Stainforth. It is hoped soon to acquire Watersmeet Valley, Devon.
