STATE OF A PLAYGROUND.
Tu IHE K.ntTOH OF THE PRESS. Sir,—Referring to tho letter by "Parent" about tho condition of Standard 11. playground at Phillipstown School, T notice that ho does not give tho Phillipstown School Committeo ciedit for tho wonderful work that lias deen done in the last few months by tho No. o men, such as trenching and sowing down in grass 100 yards by 12 vards, laying 350 yards of concrete path, raising and grading the rear grounds, laying 5J chains of drains, putting in n cricket pitch, laying 1500 jaids square of asphalt, besides much other work. Might I suggest that "Parent" nominate for the seat at present vacant. If successful he could take the reins and beat the above recon! in these times. Mr Maxwell informs me that the grounds were never better than they are at present, and he has been headmaster for the past ten years; also that instead of being tho "worst grounds, they are now the best in Canterbury. I would like to advise "Parent" that the committee lias all the qualifications that are required for carrying out nil the necessary work. Tn doing so it always expects criticism.—.Yours,-etc..
PETER CAIRNS. Chairman. Works Committee, Phillipstown iiv-hool. August llih, 1932.
