BRITISH MEDICAL ASSOCIATION.

A CENTENARY DINNER. CRITICISM OF MODERN BOY. (UKITED PRESS A-SOC IT'VC 4 -- UV ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.) (Received July 29th, 7 p.m.) LONDON, July 29. The Prince of Wales was the guest-of-honour at the centenary dinner of the British Medical Association, which was one of the largest cvor held in London, 2000 guests being present at tho Albert Hall. Thp-Princc of Wales emphasised tho Imperial aspects of the Association s work, and said it was encouraging to tliinli how many overseas members were present. Mr H. S. Newland, C.8.E., M.8., 8.5., F.E.C.S., as president of the Australian and Now Zealand College of Surgeons, responded on behalf of the guests. The day's general discussion at the meeting was largely devoted to tho characteristics and management of postwar children. Mr ■C. H. Bljikiston (headmaster, of Lancing College), in a startling criticism of the modern boy, said that, by comparison with the bov of thirty years ago, ho was timid, untruthful, and dishonest. "He expects to be taken everywhere, and, above all. ho fears loneliness and boredom," he said. Consequently the old spirit of adventure was destroyed. The war had a definite result on those who were infants in the years from 1914 to 1918. Consequently there were a largo number of young people who worked feebly and played feebly. Dr. W. H. Simpson, of Wellington, New Zealand, read a striking paper on sub-scleral injections, which is a new operation for tho detachment of the retina, and is likely to replace existing mothoda.
