The Wanganui Union had had replacements put oil the agenda ana Canterbury, which had requisitioned lor a special meeting on the leaving ie field rule, suggested that the subject be discussed on August loth. Mr Pownall (f>rcsident)_ announced that he had received a private message from Sydney stating that both the New South Wales and Queensland Rugby Unions were in favour of the replacement of injured players. The Hawko's Bay Union asked what was the law regarding the non-replace-ment of injured players, and emphatically protested to the English Rugby Union through the New Union against the non-replacement of injured plaj'ers. It was decided to inform Hawko's Bay that the English Union\s interpretation of Law 12 prohibits the replacement of injured players. Tho Canterbury Union advised that challenges for the T?unfurly Shield had been received from the South Canterbury, Auckland, West Coast, Buller, and Waikato Unions. In fine v:outlier but on a greasy ground. Hit! Maori touring team Lad an cufy victory hy oi to 6 over Thames Valley. Showing vastly superior back play in the Aral half, ilia Maoris repeatedly lined out in passing vviohcs and had easily tho better cf the play. The Thames Valley backs lacked combination, and thoir tackling was weak. In t tie - second half Thames Valley matlo more use of their forwards, holding thoir own in thiß division for tho first pavt of tho spoil, but the visitors were too snappy, their baoks missing no Opportunity and handling the greasy ball well. Moet of the Maoris' Ivies wore a result of combined back movemejits, the ball starting from the half-back "and tiavclling risht to the wing'*. The first hub" ended up 16-0 in their favour. In this spell Thames Valley had little of the tddom hookim; tho ball from the soruni, and tleir passing breaking down. For tho tourists, Avatson scored three trios, Downs three, and Maitaira, Smith, and Juckson one each. Potaka. converted four. For Thame* Valley I.averick scored a try nud Henry kicked a penalty goal. The value as n whole was ion one-sided to be interesting but the visitors' combination impressed. WEIGHT OF CHRIST'S COLLEGE FORWARDS.
