The time was spent in games and songs; and tho j local Association entertained the company at afternoon tea; a feature of the table decorations was the birthday ; cake, which the president; Mrs E, P. j Shier, provided. On Tuesday evening tho Amberley branch of the Plunket Society held its annual dance in the Parish Hall. The hall was decorated for the occasion. OXFORD. The annual meeting of the Oxford Domain Board was held in the Coronation Hall. Present: Messrs F. Debonham (chairman), A. Baxter, D. | Hawke, G. Ryde, and AV. Munn. The j secretary read the balance-sheet for the year ending March 31st, 1932, which showed a credit balance of 6s Id, the receipts being £135 7s lOd and tho expenditure £135 Is 9d. Mr Debenham was unanimously re-eleeted chairman. An ordinary meeting of tlie Board "was then held, all the members being present. Mr Rydo was instructed to obtain the necessary stakes and posts for repairing the fence at' the racecourse reserve. It was decided to reduce the annual rent for the reserve for two years so as to assist the lessee. It was agreed that when the hall was engaged for afternoon teas on sale days that a charge of 3s be made. Accounts amounting to £4O 12s were passed for payment. TAI TAPU. Poi dances, Maori melodies, waiatas, pastimes, and ancient games are included in the programme that is to be given by the visiting Maori Singers in the Tai Tapu Hall on June 25th. There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Tai Tapu Methodist Church Women's Guild. The Rev. N. P. Larsen presided. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, Mrs N. P. Larsen; vice-presidents, Mesdames McLachlan, Christian, and D. Watson; secretary, Mrs T. O. CUST. On Sunday evening Bishop West-Wat-son visited St. James' Church, and preaehed to a large congregation. After the service a social was held in the Parish Hall. The Tennis and Croquet Club held their annual dance in the Institute Hall. Winners of Monte Carlos were Miss C. Leslie and Mr R. Whitham, Miss Ilowat and Mr C. Tomlinson; lucky spot waltz, Miss A. Burrows and Mr Francis. Music was supplied by Miss A. Wayland and Mr S. Inns. Extras were played by Miss J. Smith and Mr R. Whitham. Mr Ryde was M.C. The parishioners of St. Barnabas' Church, Woodend, held their annual tea on Saturday evening, after which Mrs Heath's concert party gave a programme. Tlie personnel of the concert party was as follows: Misses Stella and Ilita Gibling, Mesdames Heath and Gimblet, and Messrs Heath, Scott, Cutler, and Durie. Mrs D. Shea was accompanist and played also for the dnnce which followed tho concert. Mr T. Gibbs was M.C. During the proceedings Mr R. McDonald exhibited the plans for the proposed new church and quoted the figures of the estimates. It was unanimously decided to proceed with the building. LADBROOKS. The winners of competitions at th-e social held last week were as follows: Misses En a Pickering and Betty McLaughlin, Mrs 11. Pickering, and Messrs J. McCarthy, L. Pickering, and C. Payne. Music was supplied by Mr Gerald McCarthy. Tho annual ball of the Basketball Chib was held on Tuesday night. The l);ill was decorated with greenery, black and. white streamers (the club's colnurs), Japanese lanterns, and balloons. During the evening tliero were many novelty dances, also an exhibition acrobatic dpneo by Mr Smith. Ashby's Band supplied the music. ISLINGTON. Mr George McKnight, of Islington, died recently, after a long illness. He was an old resident of the district. He worked for the New Zealand Refrigerating Company for many years. The funeral took place at the Sydenham Cemetery on Friday. Mr McKnight is survived by five sons and two daughters. Mr Edward McKnight is thft only one now residing in Islington. AKAROA. The annual meeting of the Akaroa High School Sports Club was held on Friday. The balance-sheet showed a debit of £4. It was reported that the combined schools would hold a gift shop nest month, and it was anticipated that tho deficit would be reduced. Officers' were elected as follows: President, Mr G. Armstrong; vice-pre-sidents, members of the High School Hoard and District High School Committee; secretary, Miss A. Kearney; treasurer, Miss S. M. Brown. It was d<>cided to organise a number of functions in aid of tho piano and gramophone fund. At the. annual meeting of the Presbyterian Women's Guild officers for tho ensuing year were elected as follows :—President, Mrs A. F. C. Williamson; vice-presidents, Mrs T. H. M'orcom and Miss M. F. The fortnightly dance was held in the Memorial Hall on Tuesday evening. Mr S. Ballard was M.C. Mrs Woodward's orchestra supplied the music. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs McEvery and Mr Wilson, and a lucky spot dance by Mrs E. Baird.
