HOARDINGS AT PAPANUI.
PROGRESS LEAGUE'S DISCUSSION.
The erection of "hoardings in the Papanui district was discussed at a meeting of the Papanui Progress League last evening, when it was decided to rescind a motion pdssed some time ago', supporting the Papanui Beautifying Association in its protest against the erection of further hoardings. Mr A. Uren said .that : there were many people who were at present unable to pay their rates, and to stop anyone who had the opportunity of earning a "little revenue .from leaning their sections for hoardings was an injustice. Mr E. Eiekerby, in seconding the motion, said that many of the hoardings at present were decidedly better than the untidy sections. He could not see any objection to them. 1 •
Mr' J. Sturrock said many residents were proud of the district being so free of tho abominations.
Mr G. T. Baker. said he recognised that some hoardings were an abomination, but in the circumstances it would be a pity to stop anyone from getting revenue. ,
