THE HOLIDAY. lieautii'ul weather prevailed at -Lyt'telton yesterday for the King's Birthday holiday, although a light southerly with threatening clouds eanic up late in the afternoon. All the vessels in "port flew bunting. The harbour launches were kept busy conveying' excursionists and trampers. There wero many hundreds of trampers out on the hills about the harbour yesterdav, and conditions were ideal. In the vicinity of the lighthouse on one occasion there were estimated to be not less than 200 trampers. Anothor patry of 150 came across from Motukarara and Little River, via Mt. Herbert and Purau respectively, and travelled by launch t,o Lyttelton. Every walk and track on the hills attracted large numbers, and it is probable that never before have there been so many trampers on the hills on one day. Diamond Harbour Golf Club. At a special meeting of the Diamond Harbour Golf Club held in the pavilion yesterday morning it was decided to extend the present links by the addition of two holes, which will increase the length by (500 yards. Mr W. C. Cleary was elected club captain. Golf. There was a large attendance of members and "visiting players at the Charteris Bay links yesterday, when Visitors' Day was held. A bogey match was held, and the following handed in the best cards: —B. Pearson (Rawhiti Club) all square; F. Knights 3 down; L. Gower 3 down; K. Gower 3 down; D. R. Wallace 3 down. The three best players in a women's bogey match were:—Miss M. Sowden 2 down; Miss W. White-Parsons 3 down; Miss K. O'Brien 4 down. A mixed foursome wit'h sealed partners for the Brown Shield was played at Diamond Harbour yesterday and resulted in a win for N. Thompson and Miss E. White-Parsons. Seamen's Institute. An enjoyable concert arranged by Mrs Maclaverty (Lyttelton Guild)-was given, in the Seamen's Institute on Thursday evening. The programme was as follows: —Pianoforte solos, Mrs Brooke; songs, Mrs Davis and Miss "oyce; recitations, Miss Armstrong; dances, Miss Zander; clog dance, Mr Wallington (s.s. Mahana). The accompanists were Mrs Brooke and Master Zander. Forty men were present. The superintendent expressed thanks for the enjoyable evening's entertainment, after which supper was ■ served.
