BENNO MOISEIWITSCH.
FAMOUS PIANIST. CIVIC THEATRE, JUXS 9ih. The favourite pianist, Benno Moiseiwitsch, will begin his Christchurch season in tlio: Civic Thou, tre, under tlio direction of J. and N. 'fait, on Thursday, June 9th. Concerts will also be given on Saturday and iuesday, Juno lltk and 14th. Some yoars ago Moiseiwitach's name wa» usually associated with Chopin. Whilst he certainly is a wonderiul Chopin interpreter, the Kussian pianist's ability is by no means limited to one composer, and it is doubtful whether he has ah equal in the interpretation of modern works. Moiseiwitsck's knowledge oi the modern music of Huasia, Italy, Spain, France, and other countries is inexhaustible. He is ever studying and experimenting, trying to plan something new, yet worthy of being heard. This year's recitals in New York were considered an outstanding feature of the musical oeason. The recitals were divided into throe groups. The liret was entirely composed of classical works, the second represented romantic music, and the. last the most intereating- works of the modern repertoire. One ol the leading American critics wrote: One can no more call liim a Chopin player than one can call him a Beethoven player or a Debussy player. He exploits the whole gamut of human emotions as exposed by tho composers of all times and places emotion where emotion is due, with a control that is extremely great After an absence of four years Benno Moiseiwitsch has returned for his fourth tour ot the Dominion. This is something that any artist might be proud of and the Russian pianist' is the only artist who has achieved this record within the last decade. This in itself is a vindication of the admiration which Moiseiwitsch is held. The box plans open on Monday nest at The Bristol.
