| . '• ♦ | CAR CRASHES THROUGH | FENCE. I MAYOR OF ASHBURTON HAS NARROW ESCAPE. The Mayor of Ashburton (Mr W. H. Woods) had a narrow escape on Wednesday evening when his car crashed through the fence on the approach to the Sclwyri bridge, and overturned. Mr Woods was returning to Ashburton from Chriatchurch when his headlights failed, making it necessary to drive with the aid of his parking.lights. lm the approach to. the Sclwyn bridge he met the dazzling headlights of another car and gave way to the side of the road, acting under the impression that he was still on the roadway. His car went through the ,fcnce and overturned down the approach. Mr Woods was accompanied by his wife and Mrs Efenry Stephenson. All escaped with minor bruites and cuts, and proceeded to Ashburton in another car.
