A HEAVY DAY.

DISTRIBUTION OF HAMPERS. ROTARY CLUB'S UNDERTAKING. Over 13 tons of groceries, tied up ill 18,340 packages, and secured in 1250 hampers, will be distributed to poor families in all parts of the City today by Rotary .. Club members and friends. Besides this huge quantity of Christmas cheer there are the meat and bread supplies to be delivered by the butchers and bakers who are handling the orders. Early this morning a small army of cars will gather at the central delivery depot at Kincaid'a factory, Lichfield street, to load and ,carry off the hampers to thoso eagerly awaiting them. In addition to tho private cars, some Rotarians are supplying lorrieß, which will take several loads at once, and. which will be manned by several members. The distribution, it is anticipated, will occupy the whole of the day, as even in the past, when the number of hampers has been inuch smaller, drivers have been busy on the work until dark. The Rotary Club has found it most difficult to deal with every application for assistance, a reporter wap told yesterday. The distasteful task of turning down a number of probably eminently deserving cases has not been eliminated, as it has been found impossible to include everybody in the distribution lists. Up to the very last moment th§ club has received from 20 to 30 applications by letter every day, in addition to the urgent cases forwarded by social workers and from tho Mayor's office. Every possible consideration lias been given to all, even to late applicants, but the club lias been unable to go beyond tho limits defined by the subscribed funds which, -by the way, have been most generous this year. However, it is not too soon to say that the charitable and seasonable work undertaken by the Rotary Club this year will bring some meaßuro of happiness to many who would otherwise go hungry and cheerless over the festive season.
