ATTEMPTED ROBBERY.

-♦ ' (PRISS ASSOCIA.TIO* TILSGBAM.) INVEKCARGILL, December 22. An unsuccessful attempt to blow ope* the safe in the office of the Majestic Theatre was made last evening or early this morning, but, although gelignite was apparently used on the safe, it resisted the efforts of the burglars and was only slightly damaged. Entranee was effected through an unlocked window. Foiled in their attempt, the burglars had to be content with 4s in money which was in the office. This is the second attempt to rob the theatre, the first taking place about two months ago.

Taranaki beaches during the past three wieeks have been dotted with jellyfish washed up for reasons unknown. One farmer who has lived on a coast farm for many years was sEown some specimens recently, and he stated that they were the first jellyfish he had seen in all the time he had frequented, the beaches about his fann boundaryhigh water mark. He suggested that some common cause of an abnormal nature most have Jed to their appearance in such numbers. The Variety was not the same as those described as having been washed up on east coast beaches. This species is of a brilliant pinkish- c purple hue, varying i* sise from, lit to 18in in diamete*.
