AUSTRALIA'S EASY WIN. INNINGS AND 155 RUNS. SOUTH AFRICA DISMISSED FOR 161. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION —BT ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.) (Received December 21st, 7.0 p.m.) SYDNEY, December 21. Sultry weather, with a slight drizzle, prevailed when the Test match between Australia and South Africa, was resumed. Australia's tail failed to wag, Bell capturing three wickets to-day for 14 runs. The Australians' innings having yielded 4G9, the Springboks commenced a long chase after runs. Christy started well, hitting McCabo for four boundaries in the second over. Grimmott was brought on and Christy banged him to the fence three times in one over. Fifty appeared in 27 minutes. Ironmonger was also clouted to the fence, but ho had Christy caught the next ball. Christy's knock was the best so far in the match. After lunch, Wall dismissed Mitchell and Cameron with successive balls. _ Morkel and Taylor followed in quick order, and with five wickets down lor 100 runs, South Africa's position was hoDcless. Viljoen was the next to fail, the last three wickets having fallen without altering the total. Nine of the next ten overs were maidens. The end was now in sight, and in spite of a determined stand by Vincent, who had the best average of his side, Australia inflicted defeat by an innings and 155 runs. Ironmonger doservedly took the bowling honours in South Africa's seconcl innings. The fielding of the home side was of first-class standard. Scores:— SOUTH AFRICA.
