PERSONAL. (Sfecial to the PRESS.J GREYMOUTH, December 8. Mr A. Whitehorn, formerly Crown Lands Ranger at Reefton, now resident in Nelson, has been on a visit to Reefton, Messrs J. Hill and W. Sara, who have been visiting Onakaka, have returned to Black's Point, Reefton. Messrs I>. and G. Hanrahan left yesterday on a visit to Christchurch. Mr J. Collogan and Miss Freda Collogan, who have been spending a holiday in Greymouth, returned to-day to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs F. W. Shallcrass left today .for Wellington, whither they were called owing to the sudden death of Mr R, Shallcrass. Mr P. J. O'Regan arrived last evening from Wellington, via Reefton. Mr D. Parry, of Bluff, is visiting the West Coast. Obituary, The death has occurred at Westport of Mr Thomas Mulvahill. He was a native of County Longford, Ireland, and had been resident in Now Zealand 42 years. He is survived by his widow and two sOns. Fire at Cobden. Ait alarm of fire was given at Cobden last evening, and proved to be in the residence of Mr W. S. Harris, of the Harbour Board quarry staff. The fire was discovered in its incipient stages, in the sitting-room, and Was extinguished before the' Fire Brigade arrived. Damage to the extent of £ls resulted. Magistrate's Court. At a short sitting of the Magistrate's Court yesterday, Joseph James was Convicted and fined 10s, with Court costs 10s, for attempting to cross the railway line when it was not clear. Owen Howson, J. J. Devonport, and W. J. Trouland were each fined 5s and costs £1 0s Gd for leaving their carts unattended in the street, or without locking the wheels. Radio society. A general meeting of the Runanga branch of the Grey Radio Society Wag held last evening when the following ofileerß were elected:—President, Mr A. Ji Boddy; secretary and treasurer, Mr L. O'Loughlin; committee: Messrs Powell, Sparks, Rutherford, Bansgrove, Calla.na.tt, Keown, Colville, Houston, and R. McTaggart. The president and secretary were appointed delegates to the Grey Society. School Cricket. The following have been selected from the Hokitika Hgih School to tour with the West Coast School team to Christchurch next week: —Erie Johnston (Ruatapu), E. Wells (Woodstock), G. and F. Stapleton, E. Richards, D. Spence, F. Parker, G. Johnston, T. DeW, R. Conning (Hokitika), Vincent (ROss), and Boyd (Rimu). , • Lawn Tennis. In a match between the Greymouth and Hokitika Lawn Tennis Clubs, ths Hokitika A team won by 10 sets to 6, and the Greymouth B team won by 10 sets to 6. Kaniori visited Ross on Saturday and beat the home team by 13 sets to 11; the number of games being 108 to 109. The Ross Club has recently erected a spacious pavilion, the voluntary work of the male members of the Club. Rifle Shooting. The Grey Defence Rifle Club held its second competition on Sunday, for the Martin trophy. Rifleman T. Garth Was top scorer with 97, W. Prendergast being runner up with 92. L. Morrisey Was third with 90. Cobden Tow,n Board. The Cobden Town Board met last evening, the chairman, Commissioner T. H. Jones, presiding. ' It was decided to refer the matter of excessive speeding by motor-buses to the police and traffic inspector, with a view to taking action against the drivers implicated.
