FLOWER SHOWS.

AT CHEVIOT. A SUCCESSFUL SHOW. Tlio Summer Flower Show and Christinas Fair organised, by the St. John's Church Ladies' Guild, Cheviot, was held in the Public Hall on Saturday, and proved a great success. This year the flower tables were arranged alonj? the centre of the main hall and the display was very pleasing. Tho arrangement of the flowers and tables reflects great credit on the flower secretary, Mrs E. P. Honeybone. The judge was Mrs 11. Acton-Adams, of Tipapa. The stalls for the Christmas fair in conjunction -with tho flower show were gaily <lecoratedi and did pood business with the crowd of people who attended. The magic cave, supervised by Mrs A. C. Fuller, Mrs Marshall, and Mrs Owen, did a great trade with the children. Father Christmas was present, and distributed his gifts with a liberal hand. The various stall-holders were as follows: —Cake and pudding stall, Mrs J. T. Head and Mrs R. G. Archer; sewing stall. Mrs 11. J. Kingsland and Mrs G, Widdup; Madame X, fortune-teller, Miss Westropp: wishing well. Mrs Marston: surprise-packets, Miss V. Bosomworth; fruit salad, Mrs G. Abbott and Miss M. Bosomworth; afternoon tea, Mrs Tl. Bailey and helpers; produce stall, Mrs W. Hughes, Mrs Walmsley, and Mrs A. G. Harrison; sweets stall, Mrs S. E. Petfengill, Mrs 11. N. Buttle, and Miss Lewis. Outside, the members of St. John's vestry conducted various games and competitions, including a novelty, guess the lamb's birthday. During the evening the stalls continued their business, and to add to the entertainment items were contributed as follows: —Songs, Cheviot School infant class; solo, Dosroond Scott,; recitation, Nancy Renner. Tho Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, and Mrs Forbes, were present. Towards the close of the evening the goods unsold were auctioned by Mr. j. F. Tonkin, and the hall was cleared for a dance. The music was supplied by Mrs.\y. F. Owen and Mr Les Burnett. The competitions were won as follows: — Christmas cake, Mr C. F. TTolton: cushion, Mrs R. G. Archer; doll's name. Mary Crispin; doll, Mar.iorie Cliilds; sheep weightguessing, E. P. Honeybone 1, D. Kay 2; lamb's birthday, 15. Burgess 1, W. A. Douglas 2. The Church will benefit by over £SO. GOOD DISPLAY AT WAIMATE. " The display of flowers at the annual Waimato Rose Show was a fiiio one, despite tho fact that the season hns been exceptionally dry. Good entries were received, and tho competition in tho majority of the classes was keen, the entries in tho decorative section particularly*being very large. 11l this section tho judges were eallod upon to exercise great skill in making their awards. The champion rose of the show was .exhibited by Mr P. W. Jones. The attendance of tho public in Graham and Clear's- hall, wherein the show was hold, was good, and the various stalls which were conducted in conjunction with thu show did satisfactory business.
