——♦— — ANNUAL METING HELD. Mr Douglas Smith presided over th© annual' meeting of the Sumner Burgesses' Association on Saturday" evening. The iinnual report stated that the membership roll numbered 64 and th£re was a small credit* balance. During the year the Association had interested itself in matters of local interest and candidates for the Mayoralty and the Borough Council had been put forward. Approval had been given to Hi 6 Conservancy Bill, introduced to tlift House in the interests of the Estuary; and the Pound Schemes, in conjunction with the Council, had been carnfeti out successfully. In conjunction with the lledclifis Association a deputation had waited on the Tramway Board to protest against the proposal to increase the price of concession cards and the restriction on the use of school children's tickets. The committee desired to place on record its deepest regret at the loss sustained to the Association and the borough in the death of the Hon. John Barr. Lectures had been held on subjects of local interest and matters affecting the welfare of the borough had been discussed. The report was adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows President, Mr Douglas Smith; vice-presidents, Messrs J. JU. Tait and G. Getson; secretary, Mr G. Murray; treasurer, Mr l*'. J. lSdwards: committee, Messrs J. S. Barr, S. K. Basset t, R. McLacblan, F. J. Adcock, and 11. C. S. Jamieson. As a result of rei#fesentations from the Association, the Tramway Board wrote stating that the 5.36 p.m. tram to Sumner could not be altered but the 9.59 p.m. from Sumner would be altered to 10.16 p.m. The letter stated that the Board could not see its way to retain the cheaper concession rate under present conditions; but the use of -school tickets during the holidays would remain unaltered. A letter from the Mount Pleasant Burgesses' Association in connexion with the establishment of an area for the conducting of heavy industries and offensive tiades was held over pending the result of a conference of local bodies in connexion therewith. It was decided to hold the next meeting on the first Monday in February, and a suitable time for subsequent meetings would then be arranged. Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring secretary J. S. Barr) and the president (Mr D. Smith) for their work during tha year, especially the latt6r, in the interest displayed in the organisation of .the Pound Scheriae.
