Rhodes, Acting-Min-ister for Finance, has announced that the national service loan of 150,000,000 dollars has been over subscribed by 65,000,000 million dollars. The lists were open only for seven days.
WAGE REDUCTION. CANADIAN RAILWAY MEN PROTEST. OTTAWA. December 3. Mr Jaines Murdoch, vice-president of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen, states that the railway systems have advised the representatives of the running trades that a 10 per cent, cut in wages will be made from December loth, and a protest on behalf of the men lias been made to the Labour Department. Mr Murdoch declared that the railways' action is illegal, having regard to the Industrial Disputes Investigation Act. The railways have informed the Department of Labour that they are willing to conduct further negotiations with the representatives of the employees. with a view to making elective the report of the Conciliation Board. As expected the report is accepted bv the companies. Whether or not the negotiations may result in a compromise remains to be seen. The general ohnirmen of the employees have stated that they are unable to accept the Conciliation Board's recommendations, and have referred the question to the employees' vote.
