PERSONAL. (special to the isms.) GREYMOUTH, March 27. Mr Peter Hunter, Superintendent of the Glen Afton Collieries, is paying a) visit to his -sister, M;s T. D. Henry, Christchurch. Miss K. Garvey returned to Runanga on Thursday, after a holiday visit to Wellington and Christchurch. Mr and Mrs C. Rod, who have been visiting friends in Blackball, Ijave returned to Wellington. Mr C. Chadwick, of Blackball, left today for Wellington, where he will join the s.s. Rangitata for England. Mrs A. Clare, who has 'been visiting friends in Runanga, returned to-day to Wellington, from whore she sails for England by the s.s. Rangitata. Mr and Mrs H. E. Bennett, left today for a holiday in Dunedin. Miss A. Stops, Dominion Organiser for the Women's Institute, who has been visiting the Weslj Coast, has returned to Christchurch. * Mr W. Smith, who has been visiting relatives in Greymouth, has returned to Gisborne. Mr and Mrs H. W. R. Sweney, who have been visiting Wellington, Nelson, Blenheim, and Christchurch, returned to Hokitika to-day. Mrs A. B. Larsen, formerly residing in Greymouth, and now a resident in Christchurch, is visiting Greymouth. Weddings. The wedding of Harold Overton, eldest son of Mrs and the late Mr T. JO. Moss, of Greymouth, to Miss Pauline Lucy, only daughter of the late Mr and Mrs J. J. Bourke, of Cobden, was celebrated on Thursday at Holy Trinity Church, Greymouth, the Ven. Archdea con J. A. Jermyn officiating. The bride wore a dress of white georgette with a white felt hat and shoes and stockings to match, and carried a bouquet. She was attended by Miss Mabel E. Moss, sister of the bridegroom, who wore a dress of cream lace and georgette, a blue felt hat and shoes to match, and also, carried a bouquet. Mr N. B. McCallum was best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of the bridegroom's mother, Mrs Moss, sen., who wore a frock of rust marocain, and a black coat. Later Mr and Mrs Moss left by express for the North Island, where the honeymoon will be spent. The bride travelled in a frock of nigger floral crepe de chine, and a fur coat. The wedding of Mr William Joseph Ellison to Emma, daughter of Mr and Mrs C. Bevan, Westport, was celebrated, int St. Canice's Church on Wednesday, the Rev. Father Plielan officiating. The bride was attired in an ankle-length frock of shell-pink satin. She wore a veil of the same shade, held in place by a bandeau of orange blossom and carried a sheaf of pink gladioli. The bridesmaid, Miss Dora O'Donoghue, wore an ankle-length frock of rose satin with a pink felt hat and carried a bouquet of flowers to tone. Margaret Hansby attended as flower-girl, wearing an ankle-length frock of pink satin and a wreath of pink flowers. After the ceremony the wedding" guests were entertained, by the bride's parents, Mrs Beavan receiving her guests wearing- tt wnart tweed costume with hat to match. Bitumen Road. ' ( As a preliminary to beginning the work of tar-sealing portions of the Main Highway in the Grey County, the County Chairman (Mr W., T.; Ogilvie) accompanied by the County Engineter 1 (Mr J. Higgins),',and several of the County Councillors this week visited Ngakavau for the purpose of inspecting the portion of the bituminised road laid there. Bridge at Brown River. Good progress Is being pade with the CouAty bridge at Brown river, the last river to be bridged between, 801 l Hill | and Inchbonnie. • The piles have allbeen driven,, and the! laying of , the i stringers is in progress. When the bridge is completed it will enable tho i round trip from Greymouth, via Nelson | Creek, Bell Hill, and Kotuku; to be made) and will also open, up connexion with Rotomanu and Inchbonnie. Sluicing at Bell Hill. With the revival of operations in the slicing claim at Bell Hill, the erection of a sawmill is ■. being proceeded with. TMb will be used for cutting, the timber required for the boxing of the waterrace and for shaping blocks for the tail race. * Accident to. Taxi-Driver. While borough workmen were engaged in removing a portion of the old watertable outside the Commercial Bank of Australia in Mackay street, Greymouth, a scantling held by some rusted nails, was struck by one of ■ them and fell just as Mr H. Hahn, taxi-driver, passed beneath it. Mr Hahn received an aforasion and cut on his head which re.quired stitching. Ikamatua School. At the Ikamatua School Committee meeting on Wednesday evening Mr J. McLennan presiding,, it was resolved to draw the .attention of the Nelson Education Board to tho unfairness caused to the children by having so many changes of relieving headmasters before making a permanent appointment, no fewer than four having been in charge since the reopening of; the school after New Year. It was resolved to agree to the appointment of Mr Herbert Cullen, of Invercargill, as headmaster, pleasure being expressed at the appointment of a male teacher. The committee decided to make application under the Unemployment Act for two men to clear the school grounds of blackberries. Cricket. The final for the West Coast championship between Marist A (Northern finalists) and Kanieri (Southern finalists) will be played on Sunday at Kanieri, The match was begun last Sunday, but had to be abandoned owing to rain. • , ' Unemployed Relief Works. A meeting of* the Greymouth Unem-; 4 ployed Relief Committee was held yesterday, the Mayor, Mr J. W. Greenslade, presiding. It was decided to ask the Government to proceed with the work of construcing the Kumara-Kapiti and Hau-piri-Kopdra roads. > The secretary, Mr P. G. Davies, reported that 804 men were at present employed in the district under the No. 5 Scheme, and 152 men under the No.' 2 Scheme. 1 Assessment Court. , A sitting of the Assessment Court was opened on Thursday at Greymouth, before Mr J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., president, Mr W. C. Mirfin as Government assessor, and Mr E. Warnes as local body assessor. Messrs M. Carmichael arid J. McKay represented the Valuation Department, Mr W. P. McCarthy the Cobden Town Board, and Messrs ~W. J. Joyco and E. A. Kitchingham the individual objectors. After hearing evidence the. Court adjourned and paid tt visit of inspection to Cobden. Approximately 350 propertie's will have to be inspected, and it will }>e. a few days before the Court's decisions can be announced. . ..
