BIG CYCLING CARNIVAL.
CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING AT ENGLISH PARK. .• • V r To-morrow afternoon, at English Fnk Stadium, the biggest cycling cMnlvalheia for several years will take place, when the New Zealand , track championships will be decided. The meeting is being held under the auspice# of the North Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Athletic end Cycling Union. The championship events to be run off include the quarter-mile, one mile, two milea, and three miles, also, the five miles New - Zealand motor-paced championship.. : . . The aspirants for the Dominion titles, inelude W. T., Weir, the five miles Australasian champion; A. 0. Ritchie, the holder of several New Zealand championships; H. Turtill, of Greymouth, the. brilliant' young rider who annexed the two mile, South Island championship from a big field at Timaru last January; A. Leathern, who Has had considerable Australian and New Zealand experience; W. J. Lamberton, the ex-amateur, who made a triumphal rintry into the cash ranks recently; b. W. Hill, the best all-round track find road rider; JV R. I'Anaon, If, Weir, and H. Crofts. * " A particularly strong field will oontest the five miles motor-paced championship, the entries including: A. C, Ritchie, W. 3. Lamberton, W. T. Weir, W. K. Weir, and R. S. Weir. The riders have, been training hard; and the contest promises to be a thrilling and exciting one. . The j supporting programme consists of novelty events, handicap cycling and running, Joy-cycle race, and boys' cycle races. Don McLennan, the champion sprinter, has nominated for the sprint events. The sports will start at 2 o'clock.
