RANGIORA. Good handicaps have been received for-the inte'r-club swimming carnival at . Eangiora on Saturday, and a number of Christchurch clubs will be well represented. The programme promises to be an interesting, one. KAIKOURA. While Mr James Leitch was arranging to give delivery of an 18 months" old Red Poll bull to Mr S. Turner, at the Show Grounds on Wednesday, the animal got out of control and pulled him along at a brisk pace for some distance. Mr Leitch fell and received slight concussion, which affected his speech. He was taken to his home by Mr Thornton and given attention. The death has occurred at Mangamaunu of a very old native, named Abraham Starkey, who came to Kaikoura in a rowing canoe in the year 1848. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs J. Norton and Mrs Thomson. HANMJSR SPRINGS. The fourth annual meeting .of the .Hanmer Hockey Club, was held recently. Mrs J. Gemmell presided. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £l7 16s sd. Day appeal were presented, and a motion passed expressing appreciation to the women who were responsible for thersunj <>i £l7 13s 6d being oollected. Arrangements were made for the annual reunion and smoke concert, for whicn the Commercial Travellers' Association will provide the musical items. It was decided to enter a team for the tug- ■ of-war on show day. SEFTON. The annual meeting of the Sefton Methodist Ladies* Guild was held at the residence of Mrs P. J. Thome on Wednesday. The balance-sheet , pre» sented by the. secretary, Mrs W. J. Henderson, showed that the income for the year had been £l7 4s Id, and the balance in hand £2 13s Bd. The president and secretary were reelected. V. , „ The Sunday schools of the three churches of Sefton held a combined picnic on Saturday at Stewarts Gully. There was fine weather, and a largo attendance was registered. The Rev. J. Farrar, assisted by a representative body of helpiors. from each of the congregations, was responsible for the arrangements. BALCAIRN. Harvest festival was held in tho Anglican Church, Balcairn, on Sanday evening, when the vicar, the Rev. E. E. Maldon, conducted the service. There was a iarge congregation. Tho church was suitably decorated, and there was a good collection of jfam, fruit, and vegetables, which have been forwarded to St. Saviour's Orphanage. Mrs Maidrn presided at the organ and appropriate hymns were sung. ' At a meeting of the Balcairn Hall Committee, held on Tuesday night, it was decided to commence a,-series of social evenings in aid of hall funds on Wednesday evening next. With the continuation of fine weather, harvest work has been going forward without interruption in the Balcairn district, and threshing is now almost completed. In many cases the yields were better than had been expected. Thero has been much activity in the station yard during the season, large quantities of grain having been sent away, and there has been a plentiful supply of trucks to facilitate this .work. • . GREENDALE. The harvest thanksgiving services of the Greendale Baptist Church were held on Sunday last, when the Rev. W. P. Lascelles, of Wellington, secretary of the Baptist Union of New Zealand, conducted the services morning, afternoon, and evening.. At the morning service a memorial tablet to tho late Mr T. W. Adams was unveiled. The tablet was the gift of Mr G. Holland, a former resident of Greendale, and a pioneer member of the Baptist Church. \ On Monday evening the usual tea was held in the Sunday schoolroom and was followed by a public meeting l m the church. Tne Rev. E. T. Jones, minister of the church, presided. The collections on Sunday and at the tea on Monday were in aid of the Hawke's Bay Fund and amounted to £6B 17s Id. r , The play-off for the Netherlea and Brooklyn Cups took place on the local courts. The pretty little > Anglican Church of St. Mark, Greenpark, was opened for worship on April 6th, ,1881, so this year marks its jubilee. .its 50 years of existence,' it has had its ups and downs, and for eight years was closed. It was reopened in 1908, ana since then a. devoted band of workers has not only kept it going, but alw has made it a mod e l of what a "tti© oountry church can be. On Sunday morning next, there will be a jubilee service of thanksgiving, and Bishop West-Watson has promised to preacn. LINCOLN. The 64th anniversary concert and supper of the Lincoln Baptist Church was held on Tuesday evening. There were a large number present. Mr T. Barnett, of Christchurch, as chairman, conducted thd' meeting. A very fine concert was supplied by the Rev. L. A.
