NEW GROUNDS.

A SITE AT GREENPARK. ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY'S PURCHASE. After occupying grounds in HhgJdy Park since 18(5-1, the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society lias botight a site at Greenpatk for its hatcheries and for the curator's house. The president of'the society, Mr C. EL Lawrence, announced ct a meeting of the council of the Society last eventing that 10 acres at Greenpark had be6n bought, and that £475 had been paid to the vendors, s<J the Society was in possession of its own grounds, H 6 explained that in 1861, grounds for the Society had been set aside in flagley Park by an Act of Parliament. The site was intended for a nursery, and for housing animals and fish imported by the Society. In 1873 the Society actually went into occupancy of that piece of ground. Since then the site had been Slightly reduced, but the Society had occupied the main part of it from that year until the present. ■ The purchase of the new ground meant that the Society would sever its connexion with tbe site which had been the foundation of its operiations. In considering the lay-out of the ground, rtiniiv matters would be brought to the attention of members of the Society, and he asked that those matters be given the fullest consideration. for the Rocietv would "occupy the grounds for inany years to cotne. Even the smallest detail should be carefully considered. It was essential for the Society to.move into the new ground almost immediately, so that tlie hatcheries would be in working order by Atnv. of 1931. The Finance Committee reported that the estimated cost of establishing the Society's headquarters at Greenpark was approximately £4IOO.
