The University Council to-day decided to adopt the recommendation of the Professorial Board, that in future the graduation ceremony be held in private, that is, that admission be by invitation. The Board set up a committee to make recommendations by which the dignity of the University may be ensured at the ceremony. The Finance Committee reported today that it hud considered proceeding with the advertisement for the Obstetrical Chair, and resolved to report to the council that at _ the moment finance was not assured, inasmuch as the Government had not indicated its intention with regard to the payment of a subsidy, but that the Obstetrical Society was being asked to exercise its influence on the Government in this connexion.
