CRYSTAL PALACE.

<fALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT.*' Those who go to see the talking film version of "All Quiet 011 the Western .Front" are as greatly impressed with tho picture as they were with the book. At matinees . and evening sessions there 'are observed men and •women who are attending the theatre to learn what' war was like, so that they may the better instruct the younger generation in the highest principles of peace. It may , sound strange to say that though "All Quiet" tells of war, and depicts in the most realistic manner possiblo all that war was along the Western front, it. is still a fine and beautiful story. And this because the young soldiers in the. picture, fresh from their class-rooms, are tho roost human fellows in the world,: getting through the. business of war as decently as possible; trying to evade death. It is mainly a study in psychology, for it shows how these boys become old and callous soldiers in three or four yearß. However 'tho battle scenes were made is a puzzle, for nothing so convincing' has been made - for this screen; in sound and in sight, it was war, plain and unvarnished. All this is to the good: Nobody should be so indifferent or so squeamish as to refuse' to see thin picture. It is better than all the Leagues of: Nations and all the Disarmament Conferences ever held; and, which is considerably more to the point, it is entertainment. Lewis Ayres," as Paul Bsnmer, is the central figure,, and acts splendidly. But dominating all 1b old Kat, Stanilaus Katezlnsky, the middle-aged corporal who befriended nearly all the German Army along: the Western front. Louis Wolheim, as Kat, is one of the high-lights of "All Quiet." What one wants to do is to advise every man and woman who docs not want to relive the years 1914-18 to see this Remarque masterpiece. .The box plans are at Tho Bristol .Piano Company, and seat 3 should be reserved.
