'i'he Canterbury Association enumerated MV«»1 reasons ior declining tho cualiengo from the Association, mentioning the CUJObei oi allied matches and the effect of lbs numerous postponements ou their competitions. The letter also stated that arrangements were being made for a team to visit tue \\ est Coast. The secretary retorted that he bad wired Poverty Bay, who had been aliotted a match on August 30tli, to ascertain if their team was positively gQlpinS tu play ou that date, but so far no reply had been roceived. Several members pointed out that Otago had already had a tlieid match against Canterbury. Mr Throp moved that, in the opinion of the New Zealand Asaociation, the challenge WM not acceptable, on account of the limited tioe available, but in the event of Poverty Bay not fulfilling their challenge the date weald be allotted to Otago. The secretary m instructed to wire to Poverty Bay asking tut an immediate reply as to their acceptance of the match on August 30th, and stating that afcould do reply be received within three dsya their challenge would be forfeited. BLLESMERE ASSOCIATION. The concluding matches in the EllesmereWomen's Hock'y Association's competitiwu were played on Saturday, the Leeston aad Bouthbridge first grade teams tying with aa equal number of championship points.
