♦ Ladies' Guild. . .Thf monthly meeting of the ' Hcathcote Ladies' Guild was held in the Methodist school room, when Mrs L. Coglo presided. The speaker for the moeting was Mrs Metson, who gave a very interesting address. Prize Distribution. Tlio young people's "Morning Star Brigade," which is associated with the Heathcote Methodist Church, held its annual prizegiving on Sunday morning last, when the Rev. H. Fallows presented prizes to the following;— Seniors —Lois Shrimpton, Annie Johnstone, Ada Cogle, Natalie Scott, Neil Watlcins, and Ean Coburn. t Juniors —Ethel Scott, Mona Dickey, Elsie Shrimpton, Joan Shrimpton, Eda Stevens, Betty Emmett, Ruth Burnell, Billie Shrimpton, Reginald Shrimpton, Billie Burnell, and Jim Coburn. School Committee. At the monthly meeting of the He'athcote Valley School Committee there were present: Messrs Collins (chairman), Harvey (secretary), O'Neill, Dickey, and Carter, and Mesdames Wakefield and Morgan. The headmaster's report stated that the school and outbuildings had all been painted and repaired. The girls' basketball team were meeting with continued success, having won all matches to date. The school would close on Friday next for the term holidays, and would reopen on September 9th. It was 'decided to appeal against the gramophone subsidy being stopped, as the committee had applied before it had been decided to stop such subsidies. A special meeting of committee and teachers has been called to make arrangements for the children's annual fancy dreßS carnival. Football. . The return Rugby match between Heathcote and Lyttelton railways was played at Lyttelton, when Lyttelton railways avenged their former defeat, winning by three points to nil. The only try was scored by M. Morton. Mr Greenaway controlled the game.
