ST. MARTINS BURGESSES.
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. Mr 0. W. Harvey presided at the monthly meeting of the St. Martins Burgesses' Association. With reference to the Association's complaint regarding the state of the footpath in Wilson's road, the City Council wrote that the path had been patched, but further holes had developed The path would be repaired and tar-sealcd at an early date. It was decided to ask the City Council, in view of the' band rotunda being moved to Waltham Park that provision be made for band concerts there. Mr Harvey was deputed to interview tho Superintendent of Parks and Reserves regarding holes in Waltham Park; also to have the roots of trees removed from the river bank near Tennyson street. It was decided to ask the City Council that any surplus metal from roads under reconstruction be carted to Kiverlaw terrace, as the Council had promised in a recent letter to raise the level of tho terrace. The noise made by the sanitary cart having drawn complaints from a number of residents, it was decided to bring the matter under the notice of the City Council; also to point out that the men were getting back into their old dirty habits. It was resolved to bring under the notice of the City Council the dangerous position o£ the pole to traffic at the corner of Wilson's road and Hills road. Mr Holland said that in June, 1927, the Association had written to the Council about the pole, and had received a reply to the effect that owing to there being insufficient traffic in the locality, the cost of moving it, £l5O, was too great. Since then the traffic had increased, the number of houses had doubled, and Hills road had been made a main highway. The church authorities on the same corner had rounded off the fence, with a result that the pole jutted out and was a danger to traffic. It was derided to send the following remit to the United Burgesses' Association: "That the maintenance of all parks be pooled, and rating be struck from a general fund." A motion of condolence was passed to the relatives of the late Mrs A. E. Herbert, members standing.
