CHILD DIES FROM BURNS.
CLOTHES CAUGHT FIRE. Muriel J? lorence csh»ne, mother ol the child, said that at 1.40 p.m. on Monday the child was playing with others in the kitchen. A gas stove was burning. It had been turned down, and evidently the children turned it up again. Witness said that she thought she heard the children screaming in fun. She went to tell them to make lees noise, and there found the baby standing in flames. Witness rolled the child in an eiderdown, but the flames were so fierce that it took half a minute to put them out. Dr. Thomas was called, and removed the injured girl to Lewisham Hospital The baby was wearing a ''feeder,' consisting of fine towelling, and this probably caught alight when she stood on a stool and leaned over the gas stove. The children had been warned about playing with the stove. I>r. John Restell Thomas said that he found the child sitting in bed with ite clothes off and suffering from second and third degree burns on the arms, face. neck, chest, part of the abdomen and also the right knee. Sedative dressings were arrolied and the baby was removed to Lewisham. where she died at 1 o'clock (he following morning. Death wns due to shock from the severity of the b"rns. A verdict was returned thnt the child died from burns ncoidentallv received when npparenHv playine with a gas stove at her father's residence.
