COUNTY COUNCILS.
KOWAI. At the last meeting of the Kowai County Council, there were present: Crs. J. D. VTylie (chairman), W. H. Hale, H. May, W. A. Kelcher, R. Peach, J. H. James, and 11. B. Forrester. The financial statement showed a credit at the bank of £l4£6. It was decided to ask the Ashley River Trust to open the water-course in the Trust reserve, Sefton. Through the blocked state of the water-course, the water in flood time was diverted across the Broad road and was likely to do damage to the road and adjoining lands, also to request the Ashley River Trust to open the outlet to the open ford on the Sower Sefton-Ashiey road, known as Schmidt's Corner. The agreement between Mr Powell and the Council in respect of a site for a rubbish dump at Amberley was approved. It was decided that application be made to the Minister for Public Works to reduce the grades and metal the Government road known as the Ram Paddock road. Cr. J. D. Wyllie was appointed to represent the Council on the Canterbury Patriotic Fund. , , A number cf residents of L,eivnieia offered to contribute towards the cost of the erection of an embankment to prevent the Kowai river from overflowing and flooding Leithfield, and asked the Council to assist. Crs. Mav and James and the clerk were appointed to obtain an estimate of the cost of "an embankment and report to the next meeting. The Council unanimously voted £2s tne West Coast earthquake relief fund. Estimates cf receipts and expenditure :or the year 1929-30 were adopted, and notice was 'given of intention to strike a general rate of id in the £ in the North Riding. Jd in the £ in the South Riding, and Id in the £ in the Amber'.ey Elding Mr F. Langbein, Highways Board's representative, regretted it was unable to pay a subsidv of £i for £1 towards the cost cf the reconstruction of the counties' section of the Christchurch-Blenheim Main Hiehwav between the Ashley bridce and Leithfield. It was decided to apply for a £3 for £1 subsidy. Cr. Mav and the clerk were appointed to j report on the roadwav leading to the rej eect'v eurveyed sections at the Leiihrielc! j beach. Cr. Wyllie and the clerk were appointed Ito inspect Peache's roadside drain and the agreement is oonrwrinn therewith,
