Owing to the fact that there was an attendance, of only 40 pupils at the Geraldine District High School yesterday morning, it was decided to close the school until Monday morning. The bus services in connexion with the school were discontinued on Wednesday owing to the flooded nature of the surrounding districts. Dance Postponed. A dance organised by the Geraldine Croquet Club in aid of the Earthquake Relief Fund, which was to be held in the Town Hall last evening has been postponed until August Bth. The postponement was made necessary by the wet weather. WINCHESTER. At the weekly meeting of the Men's Miniature Rifle Club, Mr G. Cain's trophy was competed for and was won by Walter Walple with 76 off the rifle. Mr R. Maddren lias returned from a trip to Jnvercargill. Mr T. Harrisou has left to spend a few days in Christihureh. Mr T. W r iJson, who has been an inmate of Lewisham Hospital, Christchurch, for the past few weeks, has recovered sufficiently to be able to return to his home. Mr and Mrs L. H. Orbell, Winchester, left yesterday on a short visit to Dunedin.

TEMUKA. The W.E.A. study circle on Wednesday night and the Temuka band concert and dance, arranged for last night, had to be postponed. The local Drama Circle has entered in tbo South Canterbury Drama League's annual competitions, which are to be held in Timaru towards the end of August. WAIMATE. The arrival of the late Mr Michael Studholme, Waimate's first white settler, who came by bullock dray from Chri.stchurcli seventy-five years ago, was commemorated at a public cememony yesterday, when his son, Mr Edgar Channon Studholrue, received an illuminated address at the hands of the Mayor (Mr George Dash). A patient in the Public Hospital, who became mental early on Wednesday morning, wandered away from the institution, attacked the night-watchman employed by the C.F.C.A., and then went to the Catholic Church, where his violent ringing of the bell aroused many people and attracted the attention of the police, who had been notified of his departure from the Hospital, to his whereabouts. He was token into custody and yesterday was committed to the Sunnyside Hospital. TO KESIDENTS OF WAIMATE.
