GORED BY BULL.

INQUEST ON HELENSVILLE FARMER. [THE FBESS Special Service.] AUCKLAND, July 18. A verdict that death was due to the collapse of both lungs following injuries received through being gored by a bull was returned at the inquest concerning the death of Mr J. C. Simmer, a farmer, of Helensville, on the afternoon of July 10 th. A neighbour, Arthur John Skelton, said he saw Rimmer enter his paddock and he was immediately followed by the bull. Rimmer was tossed and gored continually by the animal. Witness endeavoured to stop the bull's onslaught with a pitchfork. His wife summoned a man, who shot the bull through the eye. Rimmer, who was conscious at the time, requested that this should be done. "Xhe hull was a dangerous one," said witness, in reply to Mr Hunt, S.M., Coroner. "He had attacked my son previously and I was forced to use a pitchfork on it. People generally consider their own bulls are not dangerous, and Rimmer thought his bull was merely obstinate." Medical evidence was given to the effect that Rimmer had been admitted to the Auckland Hospital suffering from extensive injuries to the face and body. These caused the collapse of his lungs and death followed.
