(riUI ASSOCIATION- TELEGRAM.) GISBOBNE, July 18. Before a crowd of nearly 3000, on a wet, muddy ground, Poverty Bay defeated the touring Waikato team by 10 points to 3. The game wm more even than the score indicates, Waikato being unlucky not to score on two occasions, while they missed an easy kick in front of the posts. The Waikato backs handled the ball and combined well, but lacked penetration. The forwards were evenly matched with Fleming-, Kay, and Bourke the most prominent. Thomas played a great game at full-back, while Story and Voapar were the most conspicuous of the others. For Poverty Bay, McKay (2), Caulton, and Higga ecored triea, Caulton converting two.
