ADDINGTON NOTES
Personal. The staff of Messrs P. H. Brown and j Co., Moorhoase avenue, recently made a presentation to Mr V. Consedine, on the occasion of his marriage. Mr H. Worrall (manager), and Messrs L. fcai*. E. Grant, and W. Marsh made eulogistic reference to Mr Consedine. vrho was , presented with a travelling rug, 3 i clock, and doulton ware. j School Committee. At the monthly meeting of the Addington School Committee, Mr Coote presided. The headmaster's report showed a satisfactory attendance, the average dailv roll being 6SP. A combustion stove \ had" Deeu placed in the shelter-shed,; which was in use as a classroom. It ; was decided to make application to the Education Board for a subsidy for the reference library. The resignation or Mis 3 F. J. Petrie, assistant mistress, was received, and it was decided to record appreciation of her services. It vs-as decided to hold a special meeting to consider the estimates of the cost of certain improvements at the school, ana to formulate a scheme for raising the funds. Mrs Trower and Mr Fisk were appointed a visiting committee. Addington Library. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Addington Public Library was held on Wednesday evening, Mr E. Parlane, the president, being in the chair. Mrs Robinson reported that Mr E. Clark who had been in the feospital was progressing satisfactorily. Mrs I. Thompson, who had acted as a librarian for several years, tendered her resignation. The secretary was instructed to write and thank Mrs Thompson for her past services. An invitation was received from Mr Clemens, the secretary of the newly-formed Spreydon Library." to the official opening on Thursday, June 13th. Several members notified their intention of attending the function. It was deeided to send a parcel of books, as the Spreydon people had acted generously to "the Addington Library when jit was opened. Mr P. Gordon conveyed j the committee's congratulations to Mr E. Parlane on his election to the City Council. Mr Parlane returned thanks and assured the committee he would do his best to serve the Christchurch district to the best of his ability. Mrs Robinson's offer to act as librarian on Saturday afternoon? was accepted and appreciated by the Committee. Kugby League Dance. There was a good attendance at the weekly dance held in the Selwyn street hall by the Addington League Social Club "last Tuesday. The winners of novelty prizes were as follows: —Monto Carlo, Miss Lake and Mr Chamberlain; lucky number, Miss Eeid and Mr Struthridge; lucky spot, Miss Ford and Mr Hay.
