Scout Notes. j Major Furby inspected the local scout j troop on Tuesday, and expressed pleasure* at the progress made. He afterwards addressed the committee of parents. Metbodist Girls' Club. The weeklv meeting of the Methodist Girls' Club "was held in the Sunday Schoolroom on Tuesday. Dramatic readings took up the first part of the evening, those taking part being: Misses Bettv Fairbairn, Muriel Irving, Rosie Gibson, Connie Gibson, R-y Robinson, and Freda Woodham. Physical drill and games were then indulged in. The latter part of the evening was given to devotional st-dies. Personal. A presentation was made to Miss E. Crowley, infant mistress, by the staif of the Papanui School, on the occasion of her retirement on superannuation. Miss N. Biitciiff has been appointed to the staff of the Waimairi School. Dances. The Waimairi School Dance was very wefl attended, music being supplied by Vincent's Orchestra. Mr C. Claridge acted as M.C. The arrangements were in charge of Mr A. Fullwood. Mesdames Neilson-and Spiers'won the lucky spot dance. The supper was in charge of Mesdames Xeilspn. Merrin, Moor, and Fullwood. A jolly little dance was held in the Gaiety, "on Wednesday, by the Rugby Football Club. A band of three musicians help to pass the time away all too quickly. The hall was decorated with hanging ferns, pot-plants, and kewpies, dressed in the colours of the club. Several selections were played outside the hall, by the Papanui Silver Band before the dance. The lucky spot waltz was won by Miss M. Sisson and Mr A. Illingsworth. The ladies who assisted with the supper were: Mesdames J. Eeid and E. W. Worsdcll. The organiser was Mrs H. E. Smith. Papanui School Committee. The Papanui School Committee met on Wednesday, there being present: Messrs G. Allington (chairman), A. Chaney, L. Claridge. A. McConnell. W. Sandfo'rd, F. Claridge, R. Donald, J. Cains and C. H. Dyer (secretary). An apology for absence was received from Mr H. Guy. Correspondence was received from the Education Board in regard to subsidies on the'gramophone and ground improvements. The headmaster (Mr J. Noble) reported that a sum of money had been raised to equip a school band, and that the children were being supplied with hot cocoa at lunch time, during the winter months. It was reported that a Maori concert party had promised to give a concert in aid of the school funds. The Visiting Committee for the month is Messrs L. Claridge and A. Chaney.

W.C.T.U. The monthly meeting of the Papanui Branch of the W.C.T.U. was held in the Presbyterian Biblo Classroom on Thursday. Mrs Simpson presided over a good attendance. Donations were received from members towards the "million shilling" campaign fund organised by the Dominion Council. A letter was received from Miss Harband asking that notifications of new members and those transferred to other branches be forwarded to her. Mrs Bond-was appointed membership reporter. Mrs Barrell, president of the Bicearton branch, gave an address on the work of the W.C.T.U. Mesdaraes Simpson and C. Smith thanked tht speaker. Lodge Meetings. At the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Papanui Juvenile Lodge, M.U., N.G. Bro. Fright presided over a large attendance. An election for N.G. resulted in V.G., Bro. J. Beaghly being appointed, and for the V.G. chair Bro. J Chapman was elected The new membership competition medal given by P.G. Bro. Fabian was presented by P.P.G.M., Bro. Millington to Juvenile Bro. Grimwood, who had secured six new members during the past six months. An address on the juvenile movement was given by P.G. Bro. Fabian. On behalf of the Loyal Papanui Juveniles Management Committee, Bro. A. Dixon, P.G., presented Bro. W. Fright N.G., with an M.U. centenary medal for his valuable services to the lodge during his term of office. A medal was also presented to P.G. Bro. R. D. Smith for similar services. A V.G. regalia was offered to the by Bro. W. J. Chapman. A mock auction, conducted by Bro. A. Xing, realised £1 14s. Two prizes given for social items were won by Bros. M. and T. Gee..

N\G. Bro. "W. Henderson, P.G., presided over a large attendance at the quarterly meeting of the Loyal Papanui :Lodge, M.U. Visitors from the Loyal Phillipstown Lodge were welcomed. The election of officers resulted as follows: N.G., Bro. A. Powell; - V.G., Bro. B. C. Miles; elective secretary, Bro. Macfarlane; warden, Bro. Stockdale; guardian, Bro. H. N. Simmonds; supporters, Bros. Guy, McGee, Chapman, and Drury. It was decided to form a branch at Belfact, provided the consent of the District Management Committee was obtained. One candidate for membership was initiated. The head of the thirteen-pointer red deer which was shot in the Kaimanawa ranges last month by Mr C. A. J. Randrup, of Auckland, has been set up bv a taxidermist. The head is said to be the finest ever secured in the North Island. The number of points has been exceeded, but seldom has a specimen been secured possessing such magnificent "timber" of such perfect balance and in such excellent condition. Mr Randrup said the stalk extended over more than two hours, and he considered himself very fortunate to have brought it to such a successful conclusion
