UNEMPLOYMENT APPEAL. rHE Special Committee appointed by the Christohurch Gity Council to analyse the position relating to Unemployment finds that there are more men out of employment this -rear than last, and earnestly appeals t* the public for subscriptions to provide work with a view to relieving the distress amongst the vromen and children. Donations may be earmarked tot any special project, such as Road Improvements, the Boulevard, or other City Improvements. The Government has promised the sum of £25,000 provided the City finds a similar amount. Every pound subscribed by the citisens will be subsidised by a similar amount twra the Council, and will also earn a further subsidy from the Government. The Council's contributions will be further subsidised by the government on tnft actual amount of Wages paid. Citizens are assured that s Mr day'* work will be insisted upon. The Committee trusts that its appeal will receive the hearty support of the eititens, and thus help in the noble work of relieving distress. Subscriptions may be sent to the Mayor, Town Clerk, or City Treasurer.
