NORTH ROAD.
NEW CONCRETE SECTION. The roads around Christchurch are gradually but surely being made better, and to-day that portion of the Main North road between the Styx bridge and Chaney's Corner, which has been reconstructed in conorete, will be officially opened for traffic. The new section is 2$ miles in length and possesses the distinction of being the first concrete stretch to be put down in the South Island. The road will be declared open at 12.30 p.m., when Mrs T. O. Newnham. wife of the chairman of the Waimain County Council, wilt cut a ribbon extending across the road, after which Mr Newnham will drive R car over the road, subsequently turning round and pulling up at the offices or the County Council, where tf luncheon will be provided. The official party will include members of the Wnimairi County Council, representatives of the Main Highways Board, Mr F. Langfiein, District Engineer for the Public Works Department, members of Parliament, representatives of the contractor (Messrs P. Graham and Sons), Canterbury Automobile Association, Canterbury Progress League, Mayor and Town Clerk of Christchurch. City Engineer, Mayor and Town Clerk of Riocarton, Mayor and Town Clerk of New Brighton, representatives of the Paparua, Halswell, Heathcote. and Eyre County Councils, Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, Tramway Board. Harbour Board, Drainage Board, Waimakariri River Trust and South Islnnd Motor Union.
