LYTTELTON NEWS. School Fair. There was quite a 'largo attendance at the School Fair held at the Lyttelton District High School yesterday afternoon in nid of the School Sports Fund. A number of stalls did a brisk trade. Visitors were also afforded an opportunity of seeing the classes at work and inspecting the dental clinic. Obituary. The death occurred at Palmerston North on Tuesday last of Mr \V. Canning, who was for some years stationed at the Post Office, Lyttelton. After leaving Lyttelton on promotion Mr Canning filled the positions of postmaster at Ohakune, bairlio, and Pahiatun, retiring on superannuation four years ago. Tho lato Mr Canning leaves a widow. Harbour Light Theatre. "The Boy Friend," featuring Johnny Harron, and "Won in tho Clouds," featuring A 1 Wilson, will be screened at the Harbour Light Theatre this afternoon, together with a comtdv and a gazette. An additional attraction 'to-night will bo the nppenrance of Miss Edna Ayers in two national dances. On Mondny there will be a complete holiday change of programme, with a matinee at 3 p.m. The chief attraction is "Exit Smiling," a comedy burlesque starring Beatrice Lillie, an English musical comedy star who is known as "England's Lady of Lnughs," and who, in private life, is Lady Robert Peel. A good supporting programme will be shown. Miniature Rifle Club. The Miniature Rifle Club fired an exciting match against Railway, eventually winning by 524 points to 520. A. Burbery and W. Taylor were top-scorers with 67 each. A. Burbery, sen., won the Hotty Button this week with a scoro of 66. In a shoot for a trophy presented by Messrs Hammond and Turner, six men tied, and in the shoot-off L. Symonds won with a net score of 68. The club's weekly social evenings will in future bo held on Monday nights. Methodist Social. Members of the Wesleyan Guild held a social in the Methodist Schoolroom on Thursday evening. There was a large attendance. Games were indulged in, and a number of vocal and instrumental items was given. The Rev. B. Dudley presided, and the programme for the evening was in the hands of Mr F. Heal. Oddfellows' Dance. The Loyal Kaia Toa O'ddfellows' Lodge will hold a dance to-night in the Oddfellows' Ilall in celebration of the fourth anniversary of the Lodge. As is usual, the members of this ladies' lodge have made very complote arrangements for the enjoyment of their guests.
