The railway goods sheds at Lyttelton and Christchurch will be closed. The conversion of the ex-whale chaser Star 111. into a trawler has been completed. She was out in the stream yesterday undergoing trials and adjusting compasses, and is to commence trawling next week. The Cygnet was due last night from Kaikoura and Wellington. She is timed to sail to-night for Wellington and Kaikoura. The Progress is expected to load here on Tuesday for New Plymouth and Waikato. The John is due from the north to-mor-row, and loads here on Tuesday for Wellington. Wangantii, and New Plymouth. The scow Echo should arrive here during the 'week-end from Blenheim. She is to load on Tuesday for the return trip. The Gale is timed to load here on Wednesdav for Dunedin and Timaru. The Calm, due on Wednesday from Dunedin and Timaru, loads here for Wellington and Wanganui. The Katoa is timed to commence loading here on Wednesday for Auckland. The Totara sailed yesterday for New Plymouth She is due back about Thursday next to load for the same port, sailing via Wellington. - . The Kahika sailed yesterdny for Napier and Gisbome; She is due back, via southern ports, on the 12th inst., to load again for Napier and Gisborne. The Breeze is to complete loading here today for Wellington and Wanganui. The auxiliary schooner Aratapu has been further delaved at Nelson by bad weather. She left there yesterday morning for Weilin on. and is due here on Monday to load for Waitara. The Kennedy is noiv due on Wednesday from Foxton to load for that port._ The Port Dunedin is expected this morning from Timaru and is to sail on Wednesday for Wellincton to complete loading. The Port Curtis, with New York cargo for discharge, may reach this port to-morrow from Wellington. The steamer Indianola is due at Lyttelton on Monday from Nauru Island with phosphates. ,

The Wingatui is due at Lyttelton on Thursday from Auckland and Wellington. She is to sail the same day for Dunedin, Oamaru, and Timaru. The liaiwarra is to bo dispatched to-day for -Picton and Auckland. The Piako, which left Auckland on April 28th for New York, orrived at Newport News on Monday, and sailed again on Tuesday. To obtain information of ocean currents, the United States Hydrographical Department has set adrift a number of bottle papers, several of which have recently been picked up in Australian waters. Cabled advice has been received that the Valicia left Liverpool on Saturday for New Zealand. She is due at Auckland on July 6th. , Orders have been placed by the Union Castle Line with Harland and Wolff for two new motor-liners. One will be a 20-000-ton twin-screw double-acting-engined vessel, similar to the Carnarvon Castle and a sister ship at present .under eonstruetion, for the South African mail service, while the other is for the owners' East African service and of about 10,500 tons. The exact type of machinery for the smaller vessel has not yet been settled. but Harland and Wolff will build the engines for both ships.
