Pathetic scenes were witnessed during the departure from Victoria Station for Lourdes of 1000 pilgrims, with 200 sick, 70 of them carrying cases. They took an hour to embark on tho white train, with stretchers, bath chairs, and air-pillowed, beds. Some were like skeletons, some were blind, and many were lame, but all were sustained by .the hope of being helped by Our Lady of the Grotto. "Some are dying —this is their last hope," remarked a sister. The youngest pilgrim waß a nine-year-old girl, a cripple who had undergone eight operations. The Pilgrims sang,' "Look Down, Mother Mary," and offered up prayers. Hundreds of healthy pilgrims kneeled on the platform.
