FIRM DENIES GRAFT.
CONTRACTORS FOR POWERHOUSE. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BT ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.) , LONDON, May 14. The newspapers are giving prominence to the allegations of corruption during the Labour regime in Sydney, made before the Royal Commission, which is investigating the municipal power-house contracts. . The "Dailv Chronicle" informed the London office of Babcock and Wilcox of th© nature of the cabled statements, and the deputy general manager promptly denied the allegation or bribery. He states: "This is the first we have heard of it, and shall cable our Sydney manager for full details. Meanwhile, we are glad the public have our emphatic denial. We have never done anything of the sort, either in Australia or anywhere else. There must be some mistake. It is true we secured the contract, and are now iulfilling it, but it is untrue that we paid anyone £IO,OOO for it. Those are not our business methods. We take a most serious view of the allegation, and shall take up the matter immediately."—Australian Press Association.
