POWER BOARD.
NORTH CANTERBURY. A meeting of the North Canterbury Electric Power Board was held yesterday. Present: Messrs J. D. Wyllie (chairman). H. Tallott, J. Fitzpatricfc, T.' Horn, A. M. Carpenter, D. R. Hutchison, C. E. Beynon, and J. Cowan. The Electric Supply Authorities Engineering Association invited the Board to send representatives to the annual conference. It was decided that Messrs A. Buckingham and J. C. Hancox represent tho Board. A letter waß received from the Hon; Mr Buddo, M.P., advising that the necessary Orders-in-Council were being prepared to enable the Board to proceed with its financial proposals, i ' Messrs Johnston, Mills, and White wrote enclosing copy of telegram received from the Public Works Department giving authority to purchase electric works, the property of Ihf. Rangiora, Kowai, and Eyrt Counties. The secretary of the Loans Board wrote explaining why the application for a consenting Order-in-Council in connexion with the construction and general loan of £160,300 hod been delayed. Correspondence was dealt with from Messrs Templin and Toogood in connexion with the purchase of lines from the . Public Works Department and tenders for sundry equipment.
Mr Templin said now that the authority was coming to hand it was necessary to have every house in the Power Board area rescheduled and inspected. Replying to a complaint with regard to the poor energy being received from the Public "Works Department, Mr Templin said the complaint was justified, and they could not push business until the voltage was increased. He urged the Board to lay a complaint with the Public Works Department, and urge it to push on with the new construction work. Mr Hancox said that recently the voltage was so bad that the pictures proprietor in Kaneiora had to run on the stand-by plant. The chairman (Mr W. Stalker) and Crs. Ormandy and R. Macdonald, members of the Rangiora County Council, waited on the Board in reference to several matters of interest to both bodies. In connexion with a site for offices, the county offered a strip of land adjoining the countv offices for a term of 21 years, at a rental of 10s a week. The offer was accepted, and Messrs Templin. Buckingham, Fitzpatrick. and the clerk were appointed a sub-committee to draw np plans for a suitable building. It was decided to approach the. Rangiora County Council with an offer for the use of the County Board room for meetings.
